Infant Baby Monitor

Has anybody slept better after moving their baby into their own bedroom?

I have a 5 month old who sleeps next to me in a Co-sleeper. She wakes up 4x per night from 9pm to 8am. My husband wants to put her in her room with a monitor. I still nurse and I know I’ll be up going to her room every time she wakes instead of just reaching over and picking her up. We live in a ranch style house and her room is at the opposite end which in my opinion is too far for an infant. My husband thinks I’ll sleep better because I won’t feel every movement she makes or hear every little stir. Has anyone had improvement after making the move, am I just being the overly concerned mom?

I had so many improvements after making the move. I slept better and believe it or not my baby woke up less and seemed to sleep better! She’s starting to enjoy being in her crib! Sometimes I go in to check on her and she’s just in there playing and working on sitting up! I think it’s really good that you’re concerned but I think it’s atleast worth a try right? Many babies sleep in a crib most of the night, and then join the parents after the last feeding for some snuggle and sleep time together before starting the day. Maybe that would be any easier way to start the transition to the crib!

Not good for infant to be in the Dark?

My other in-lay insists that we leave a light on the the bedroom when it is dark out side, if my wife and I are not in there too. She never gives a reason, just that we have to. She has even said “I won’t allow it.” after telling use not to leave him in the dark.

Is there really a problem with us doing so?

When we are not there, we have a little baby music in the background that lets us know the baby monitor is working. We take the monitor with us everywhere (it’s water resistant). We can not understand what the issue is. Any help would be nice.

Thank you.

I’d humor her when she is around the baby, as long as the light is dim. It is important for your little one to learn the difference between night and day to help him get his circadian rhythms organized, and if the light is too bright it may interfere with that. There’s no real reason to keep doing it other than to satisfy her, babies spend their time in the womb in total darkness, and there is no medical purpose to continue doing so. I keep a nightlight on in my newborn’s room, set very dim, but only so I can see enough to pick him up before and put him down after night feedings without fumbling for the crib in the dark.
